Student Success

Every student's main goal is to become a successful student not only in academics but socially as well.  Being successful takes a lot of hard work and dedication and entails many more factors. Every student attends college because they want to be successful in whatever major or career they want to pursue. The definition for success various from person to person but according to the Webster dictionary success is defined as, "the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted." I believe every person wants to be successful in whatever they do and there are many factors that can make this possible.

According to the associate dean at Arizona State University, Afsaneh Nahavandi, states that "obviously good grades," are an important factor; however, there are many various factors that help a student become successful. In college it is all about overcoming obstacles and having good time management skills. Balancing a busy schedule is something that is required in college, whether it be between classes, work, or your new busy social life. High school is very different from college and that transition can sometimes be devastating.  College is less structured and has no absence policy; however, it is ALWAYS recommended to attend every class so you do not fall behind.  Your parents are not here to tell you what to do and when to do it, so the student must take the initiative to be responsible and do what is right.

Many students can overcome these obstacles throughout college, and as you can see, many successful students graduate each year from not only ASU but any college. Managing your time, being responsible, and getting good grades are all factors that should be maintained. Remember, according to Afsaneh Nahavandi, "you are responsible for your own success," so do your best because college is a once in a lifetime experience!

I agree, every students main goal is to become both academically and socially sucessful. Being socially engaged can help one become acedemically sucessful. This is becuase when one is socially engaged they are more likely to be in study groups or go to tutoring.

Nice touch putting in the definition of success from the dictionary. I agree that most students are not paying the price for tuition in order to fail. Success is always the goal.
